American Beach was founded in 1935 by A. L. Lewis and the Afro-American Life Insurance Company so that Black families could enjoy the ocean with dignity, and the community on Amelia Island's south end still carries that history in every street name and cottage. Working here is a privilege, and we treat the place accordingly.
Heritage cottages by the sea
The original cottages and mid-century homes of American Beach face the same coastal physics as the rest of the island (salt-accelerated corrosion, aging galvanized and cast iron, heaters on the beach clock), often in structures that families have kept for generations and intend to keep for more. Our repairs respect that: preserve what can be preserved, replace what must be replaced, document everything, and leave the house sound for the next generation of the family that built it.
Newer construction has grown up around the historic core, and we service it on the standard island program. But the heart of our American Beach work is stewardship plumbing for heritage homes, priced fairly and done carefully, within sight of NaNa dune.
American Beach plumbing questions
Yes: phased repipes routed for minimal opening, drains lined rather than dug where the camera allows, and every change documented so the family record stays complete. Preservation is a plumbing style, and it is ours here.
Comfortably: written estimates circulated to everyone, one designated approver, photos at completion. Family stewardship is how this community works, and our process fits it.
Enough to honor it: A. L. Lewis's founding vision, the era when this beach meant freedom, and the preservation work that continues today. It informs how we treat every house here.
